Flight in Assam (Kaziranga National Park, Assam)
Kaziranga National Park is world heritage site which is famous for a number of reasons: having the largest tiger density in India, being home to the great one-horned rhinoceros and host to a variety of migratory birds. In fact, Assam as a whole is a excellent state for birding. Accommodation is plentiful and the national park offers a complete in-to-the-wild experience.
Where: Both the picture of the Indian Roller and the Hawk Eagle were captured inside the park.
Why you should visit: The park is home to the world’s largest population of the one-horned rhinoceros, wild buffaloes and swamp deers. The elephant grass in the park adds a very distinict flavor to the atmosphere.
Things to do: Jeep and Elephant Safari, Birding, Experience Assamese Culture, Jam around a campfire, Chill.
Best time to visit: November to April.
Accessible from: Kaziranga is a 4 hour drive from Guwahati.
Something extra: If you can manage a couple of additional days, you should try hitting Majuli which is the largest river island in the world. Its a 2 hour drive and a 2 hour ferry ride from Kaziranga.
